Srinagar, Mar 17 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday informed the Assembly that a total of 25 cement factories are currently operational across the Union Territory.
Responding to a question by MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz, the government, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said all operational cement factories have been issued provisional certificates—CTE (Consent to Establish) and CTO (Consent to Operate)—by the Jammu and Kashmir State Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) before commencing production.
The response, however, did not provide specific insights into the environmental impact of these cement units on surrounding areas.
A detailed list identifies the 25 cement plants, of which 20 are currently functional, while five remain non-functional, it reveals.
The functional cement factories are spread across districts like Kathua, Udhampur, Samba, Pulwama, and Srinagar, with operational plants including M/s Chatan Cement Industries (Kathua), M/s Shivalik Cement Industries (Udhampur), M/s Trumboo Industries Pvt Ltd (Pulwama), and M/s Khyber Cement Pvt Ltd (Srinagar), among others.
On the other hand, non-functional cement plants include M/s J&K Premium Cement Works (Jammu), M/s Mehar Cement Pvt Ltd (Jammu), and M/s Illahi Cement Industries (Anantnag)—(KNO)
